The readjustment of the minimum wage for 2023 will respect the progress of price increases in the country. The calculation of the increase is based on the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) which is shown by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

Only after determining the inflation of the last 12 months will the government establish the new national ground firmly. This application, that is, the change in the value of the floor, takes place from January 1 of each year, in this case 2023.

Increase in minimum wage may displease

After the approval of the Budgetary Guidelines Law (LDO) sent by the federal government to the National Congress, the new value of the minimum wage must displease Brazilians. This is because the proposed readjustment is only R$ 82, with the salary increasing to R$ 1,294 from the current R$ 1,212.

On the other hand, according to data released by the IBGE, the INPC currently accumulates a peak of 5.61 with the possibility of reaching 8.1. If it reaches this level, it is expected that the minimum wage will reach R$ 1,310.17, which represents an increase of R$ 98.17.

Despite the initiative, the increase is still considered very small, with no real gains for Brazilian workers and for beneficiaries from the National Institute of Social Security (INSS).

A recent survey by the Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies (Dieese) indicates that, in order to live with dignity in Brazil, the minimum wage for a family of four must be five times higher than the current one. What is not happening now.
