In short, the purpose of the proposal is to allow employers to negotiate with the unions of each category the payment of the benefit that is paid as part of the monthly salary so that it is not classified as work allowance.

It is common for workers to use the tickets for other purposes, according to the parliamentarian who intends to investigate the decision in the Senate. I put the proposal to Arthur (Lira) and he liked the idea, said the deputy.

It should be noted that in addition to dealing with issues related to the food stamps, the MP also regulates the remote work regime (home office), which grew significantly during the pandemic.

The use of food stamps

Contrary to what the MP's rapporteur proposes, workers will have to use vouchers to pay for meals or buy groceries in previously authorized establishments.

On the other hand, the proposal also prohibits the negotiation of vouchers with discounts and rebates. Fines ranging from R$ 5,000 to R$ 50,000 will be applied for non-compliance with the new rules, that is, if there is distortion or deviation from the purpose of the food voucher.

If not approved by Congress, the MP expires on August 8. The rapporteur stated that he is negotiating with the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), for the opinion to be voted on in plenary as soon as legislative work is resumed.
