Discussions in the National Congress regarding the proposal to increase the "Auxílio Brasil" (Brazil Aid) program have been quite active in the last week. The already approved "PEC Kamikaze" (Kamikaze Amendment) expands the payment to low-income families from the current R$ 400 to R$ 600.

Another change not included in the text, but under analysis by the government, is the inclusion of approximately 2 million families on the payroll in the coming months. According to the Ministry of Citizenship, this number is sufficient to eliminate the waiting list.

Technicians on President Jair Bolsonaro's team are working on the possibility of using the R$26 billion earmarked for Auxílio Brasil to enroll more people in the program. All newly admitted beneficiaries will also receive R$600 installments.

It should be noted that the measures outlined in the Constitutional Amendment Proposal (PEC) are valid until December 2022, with no extensions scheduled. The overcharged payments are scheduled to begin in August.
